Vicki is a seasoned sistah who views life from a mature perspective. Her observations about women and the changes and challenges they experience through life prompted her to focus on writing books for women. Some with an emphasis for younger women, and others honing in on maturing women. She has edited two collections of powerfully emotional and enriching stories filled with vibrant personal support that inspire, encourage, and bonds women to each other.
The voices resonate with words of comfort while generating a sense of sistah-hood are those of women of color. They magnify universal truths; whatever your culture all women share similar life trials, joys, challenges and success.
Though a life long writer, after reaching her 40’s her focus shifted from the influences of creative writing courses, intensive writing workshops, and an apprenticeship as an entertainment writer reviewing live concerts, CD releases, and stage plays for a Northern California entertainment magazine.
Life’s Spices from Seasoned Sistahs, a Collection of Life Stories from Mature Women of Colorwas her first book. In this collection readers find a dynamic array of stories depicting life events voiced by women of color. This literary gem won the ForeWord Magazine Book of the Year Award, the Independent Publishers Bronze Award, and Best Anthology from the Los Angeles Black Book Expo. A popular anthology, it has been selected as required reading in college and university courses for over 5 years.
Vicki’s awareness grew of the number of maturing women faced with changing lifestyles, and approaching retirement age. Many armed with little or no preparation. She seized the opportunity to find resources to increase their ability to better manage these issues, and published Savvy, Sassy, and Bold after 50. It is a much needed handbook for women approaching the golden age of 50 and beyond. This book provides timely and vital information for retirement, health, aging, new lifestyle choices and more. It was awarded Best Women’s Self Help Book, by the Bay Area Independent Publisher’s Association, and an Honorable Mention by Northern California Publisher’s and Authors.
As CEO of Nubian Images Publishing an independent press with a feminine gender focus, Vicki is encouraged through conversations and interaction with women of many cultures to continue to publish books that explore women’s life stages as they age from young adults to middle age, through their maturing years. She feels it is vital to publish books that educate, inspire, and illuminate a woman’s journey providing different visions, and alternate life possibilities that highlight and enrich the life journey. She is retired enjoying her second career, living a seasoned life in Northern California, writing about and speaking to diverse groups of dynamic, empowered, entertaining, and gifted women.
